Leona D. (Sarso) Bodnar
Age 93 of Creighton, East Deer Township, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights with family by her side. She was born March 18, 1930, in Harwick, to the late Joseph and Antes (Pitlock) Sarso Sr. She was the youngest and last surviving sibling of nine children.
She retired from Deer Lakes School District, where she worked in the cafeteria. She was a member of Guardian Angels Parish Harwick campus and the former Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Christian Mother’s Ladies Guild organization and was an active church volunteer. A resident of the East Deer Personal Care Home for the past year, she enjoyed baking and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Terry J. Bodnar of Texas; Richard L. (MaryAnn) Bodnar Jr. of Washington state; Josephine “Jo Jo” (Fred) Telles of New Kensington and Joseph L. (Doreen) Bodnar of Harmar; grandsons, Kendall J. (Meghan) Bodnar of Washington state; Brandon M. (Anastasia) Bodnar of Virginia; and Jonathan A. (Dana) Bodnar of Texas; great-grandchildren, Duncan James, Rose Marie, Ellie Grace, Grady Miles and Ryan Chase Bodnar; four stepgrandchildren, Fred, Sarah, Elizabeth and Abi; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Jacob and Avery. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard L. Bodnar Sr.; daughter-in-law, Joan Marie Bodnar; great-granddaughter, Ada MaryJo Bodnar; and siblings, Theresa Gryzbek, Marietta “Mickey” Suche, Rose Owcar, Anne Matassoni, Agnes Cincala, John Sarso, Joseph Sarso Jr., and Andrew Laczek.
The family would like to extend gratitude to the critical care nurses, doctors and staff at Allegheny Valley Hospital, and her primary care doctors throughout the years, especially Dr. David Tomaselli.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024 in the Paul R. Ajak Funeral Home, Inc., 921 Freeport Road, Creighton, PA 15030, www.ajakfh.com. Parting prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church, 1319 Low Grade Road, Harwick, PA 15049. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township.
