Philip Weremeychik, Jr. Obituary

Philip Weremeychik Jr., 91, a longtime resident of Natrona, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.  He was born on August 9, 1930 in Brackenridge to the late Philip V. and Eva (Sudia) Weremeychik.  Phil moved to Natrona after he married his beloved wife of 65 years, the late Mary F. (Horan) Weremeychik.

He was a Har-Brack Class of 1948, graduate who, in his high school years, played varsity basketball and participated in the marching band. Following high school, Phil attended California State Teacher’s College. He retired after forty years of being a loyal employee for PPG Industries in Creighton.  At PPG,  he worked in the production department, as a draftsman and as a storeroom manager.

Phil was a faithful member of Guardian Angels Parish, St. Ladislaus R.C. Church, Natrona.  Phil coached his two sons when they played Little League baseball in the 1960's and 70’s and was also the President of the Natrona Heights Little League organization. He was a proud father who followed his sons as they played senior league baseball, American Legion baseball, high school and college basketball. He enjoyed his time working as a WPIAL basketball official for many years. Phil loved watching his grandsons play baseball and basketball and was their biggest fan.  He and Mary would travel to Saint Vincent College, never missing his grandson, Thomas', basketball games. He assisted the Highland Hornets team as a public address announcer.  While bartending part-time at the Brackenridge Heights Country Club and Willowbrook Country Club he was known for his many great conversations with the members.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Phil E. “Coach Phil” Weremeychik and his sister, Grace Marie Beresik.  Survivors include his son, Thomas J. Weremeychik of New Kensington, his two grandsons, Philip J. Weremeychik of Cabot and Thomas D. Weremeychik of New Kensington, and his sister, Marian P. (Andrew “Butch”) Kuniak of Lower Burrell, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation and service are private.  Officiating is the Rev. Aaron J. Kriss.  Burial in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
