Richard A. Szafranski
Age 89, formerly of Natrona, passed away at his home in Buffalo Township on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Richard was a longtime resident of Natrona.
He was born on October 28, 1931, in Natrona and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Sledzieski) Szafranski. Richard was a graduate of Har-Brack High School. He worked for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation, Brackenridge until his retirement. He was a Korean War Army veteran and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with a bronze service star, Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of St. Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church, Guardian Angels Parish. Richard was also a member of the Oregon Hunting and Fishing Club, Brackenridge.
He enjoyed yard work and landscaping, sports, liked to golf and was proud of his hole-in-one at South Buffalo Golf Course. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his five brothers, John, Edward, Joseph, Zigmund and Charles Szafranski, three sisters, Janet Szafranski, Katherine L. Kozlowski and Irene Szafranski. Survivors include his many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a great-great nephew and a great-great niece.
Friends will be received on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Paul R. Ajak Funeral Home, Inc., 2 Pine Street and River Avenue, Natrona where a blessing service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021 in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ladislaus R.C. Church, 48 Spruce Street, Natrona with the Rev. Andrew Fischer as celebrant. Entombment with military honors will follow in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
